Book Four in Joseph Flynn's highly entertaining The Jim McGill "Presidential" Series is a two-part-er ... so be prepared! I Wasn't! Talk about leaving the reader hanging! Consequently when I read the final page of The Last Ballot Cast - Part 1, I couldn't get to the Amazon Kindle site fast enough so I wouldn't miss a beat.The plethora of plots and characters continues from his previous books ... and after three, this reader pretty much considers them family. I am purposely not giving you any details other than to say, this political thriller is right on target ... IMO ... with what's going on in politics today. I have to wonder if "Joseph Flynn" isn't just an alias and he's really a Senator or Congressman in disguise.
Now, the author says The Last Ballot Cast, Part 2 will be the final book in the series, and that all loose ends will be tied up. We shall see! From my perspective, I sure hope not.

Vote, vote, vote Patti Grant For President.
After chomping at the bit waiting for Joseph Flynn's final story in the Jim McGill Series, the book(s) were released today. I've order Parts 1 and 2 of The Last Ballot Cast and will start reading them tonight.
You will note that I've already rated it 5 stars. That's because if we had someone like Patti Grant actually running for President our world would be in better shape. I also feel as I read the books the 5 stars will have been earned by the a wonderful writer -- Joseph Flynn.
Mr. Flynn's past writings in the Jim Mcgill series had everything in a story that holds your interest. Humor, great story telling, fast-paced reading, drama, and romance. In the past I have caught myself laughing out loud at some of the scenarios Mr. Flynn has conjured up in his stories.
I'll post more when I finish Book 1. Meanwhile, treat yourself to one of my favorite author's, Joseph Flynn. I cannot put his books down.
UPDATE JULY 28, 2012 I finished reading Part 1 of The Last Ballot Cast. Another fast read, page turner and enjoyable book by author Joseph Flynn. Flynn's storytelling, the interweaving of various plots and ever changing and intertwining of characters make for another superb book.
The warmth, love, compassion and understanding of the McGill family is wonderfully, highlighted by the backdrop of a political thriller. The various avenues the political story takes keeps you guessing at every turn.....what's "gonna" happen next and to whom?!
Joseph Flynn keeps getting better and better in his writing. Thanks Mr. Flynn for another enjoyable and entertaining read. Keep 'em comin'!
UPDATE AUGUST 1, 2012 Part 2 - The Last Ballot Cast
As usual, I did not want Joseph Flynn's book to end.
Flynn nicely tied up all the loose ends. All questions that arose while reading Parts 1 and 2 were answered.
There were times I found myself laughing out loud at some of Flynn's phrasing and/or scenes that he had conjured up.
The entire McGill four book series starting with The President's Henchman, then The Hangman's Companion, then The K Street Killer and the last in the series - The Last Ballot Cast Part 1 and Part 2 - is an exceptional political thriller. The varied and numerous characters very interesting, and there were times during the reading of the entire series that you wished our government worked the way Flynn wrote about it.
If you have not read the McGill series treat yourself. I don't think you will be disappointed.
Mr. Flynn has created a group of characters that he loves and one that the readers will respond to as well. His first two novels The President's Henchman and The Hangman's Companion were stand alone Jim McGill novels and are terrific stories. However, starting with The K Street Killer[a wimpy title] and this one, Flynn has created one hell of a rollercoaster ride. You need to read the K Street book first before this one because each of these books takes the reader to the edge of a cliff and stops. The Killer book sets up this one and this one sets up the part two of the Last Ballot Cast. As a reader besure to read the list of characters at the front of each book to keep the players straight. It is hard to say if this series is a murder mystery, action story, or polictical thriller because all three are here in inter weaving story lines. Flynn takes on the Government and turns it up side down and inside out and all the reader can say is, "Why not?" The bar scene in Florida is a funny take on gun control. Now some will complain that Flynn doesn't tie up loose ends but instead creates more and that is fine. He does set up possible harm to a main character, a down to the wire Presidental election and unless you are completely blind, an election that will be decided in the electrorial college. I don't know what is going to happen with the three killers on the loose. Whatever Flnn has up his sleeve I am buying a ticket for the next ride.
Another solid well written story.
In answer to the cliffhanger in the last book McGill decides to go ahead with the bone marrow transplant for Kenny from his wife.
All parties come out of it just fine. Kenny well on the road to recovery and Patti having no further trouble with the heart.
Of course her VP has decided he likes the office of POTUS and has decided to run in the next election. He will be running as the Republican candidate. Patti hasn't decided whether to run as a Democrate or and Independent or as neither.
This poses problems for his neice and Welborn Yates. Yates who is closing in on the man who murdered his three friends and ended his career as a fighter pilot.
Said party has been stealing cars all over. He also has no problem killing anyone who gets in his way. He does run into Carinda Lindberg and Yates is hot on his trail.
Yates workes for the POTUS and of course Kira will work for her Uncle. Exciting times ahead for all parties concerned.
We also have Damon Todd making his escape from the CIA. He takes along two opertives who were also imprisoned by the CIA. These guys are stone cold killers and once Todd takes over their minds he has a couple of willing accomplices.
Accomplices to what you ask? Why the death of Jim McGill.
This was just one rollercoaster of a ride and well worth those lousy five stars. Can hardly wait to get number two. Just super.
