I don't want to bury the lead here: There's a "return for refund" feature on Kindle books. How cool is that? And useful, in this case.I often enjoy mediocre escapist fiction. Such was the case with the first Noble episode. Not great writing and quite a few groan-inducing factual or logic errors, but what the hey, it's paperback spy fiction, or the modern-day equivalent.
In his second outing, Noble does the same silly stuff, but to a backbeat of Trumpist propaganda. In the first few chapters, I met Crooked Hillary, a sympathetic "Shawn Hennessy", and endured a painful (for a former journalist) ringing endorsement of the journalistic acumen of Fox News. Good grief.
Somehow political bile just pops the bubble of escapism. Enjoyable pulp turns to toxic sludge.
If this were good literature, or if the political commentary was thoughtful, there might be a reason to go on, but I just put it down.
And went for the refund!

Noble Vengeance Jake Noble Series William Miller Books Reviews
I was happy, but less than thrilled, with book 1 of this series. Book 2 is an entirely different story! This was fast paced with plenty of action and I thought the writing style was much improved also. Highly recommend!
When i finished book1, I was hoping that book 2 would be better. After finishing book 2, I can't wait to see what's ahead in book 3!
Like the others, Jake is facing his reality and his desires. Lot's of action, feasible plot line, if you like action books you will like Miller's Jake Noble series. If you are a stickler for spelling and grammar you might want to stick to hard paper books, but if like me, you are just looking for an interesting, escape book, then this is for you. I am glad I did not have to wait between books.
Too political. I see a Hillary hater. Leave politics out of story.
The first book in this series was fantastic and served as a great launch for a new character. This second installment in the series was disappointing due to its lack of creativity. The primary plot is good but Miller leaves so much of its potential unexplored. Far too much time is spent demonizing Hillary Clinton in extraordinary ways. Yes, the characters have different names but a child could figure out the author is mirroring Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Sean Hannity and other players in today's political theater. The heavily featured political statements and absolute hatred of Hillary Clinton demonstrate an utter lack of creativity this time around. It was jolting compared to the first novel. Noble Vengeance suffers from a lack of realism throughout and poor choices in character development. I wonder if this happened because the author was so distracted by his own desire to vilify left leaning politicians and the liberal media.
Great read! I have read two Jake Noble books by William Miller and had a hard time putting them down. Jake Noble is the kind of person you would hope every person who is, or has been, in the service of our country would be. Unfortunately, he is also the victim of our corrupt political machine that pervades every niche of the intelligence service currently. My kind of author. My kind of hero. I highly recommend.
Read both books in the series. While I enjoyed the plot of both and overall enjoyed them, I wish #1 the main character was given a different name. We already have a series of excellent Jack Noble books written by L.T. Ryan. #2 the side story about crooked Hillary (Rhodes) and Trump (the alt right real estate tycoon) was just to close to what we already experienced. Too easy to see where that was going and for me, drops the rating a star.
Along with all the action, which I loved, was a great story line. You could read this book independently or if you wanted, you could start with the first book that introduces Sam and explains how she worked with Jake before. Jake has to support his Mother and her fight against cancer. He lives on his boat after being fired from the CIA. He receives a key and then a message that his close friend is missing in Mexico. Then there's the rest of the story. Read it, you won't be sorry!
